Dr. Shah has been motivated to pursue an enriched career in medicine due to his interest in patient care. As an individual who deeply cares about humanity and its’ welfare, the doctor-patient relationship model naturally appealed to him, thus peaking his interest in healthcare. To a greater extent, he chose his specialties to personally address an unmet need in medicine: pain. Dr. Shah expresses his passion by stating: “Every patient is unique and has a very special life story and future journey. Specifically, I want to help patients understand their pain, their treatment options, and improve their pain and quality of life.”
Born in Vadodara, Gujarat, India and raised in Sunnyside, Queens, New York City, Dr. Shah has been practicing medicine since 1995 and has served in clinical pain management roles in Texas, Pennsylvania, and New York. He is currently licensed to practice medicine in New York, Texas, and Louisiana.
Dr. Shah received his Doctor of Medicine from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. He completed an internship in the Department of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Further, he completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Rusk Institute, New York University Medical Center in New York, New York and he was also resident in Clinical Anesthesia at Cornell University Medical Center in New York, New York. Additionally, he completed his fellowship in Interventional Spine and Sports Medicine at The Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, New York and an Accredited Fellowship in Pain Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas.
Before joining Physician Partners of America, his press-ganey scores were 4.8/5. In addition to caring for patients as an Interventional Pain Physician, Dr. Shah has also worked in various leadership positions throughout his medical career. These include serving as Board Member, Director at Large, Editor, Editorial Board, and Reviewer.
Dr. Shah’s leadership positions has led to many more accomplishments, including being editor of the largest published series on sacral kyphoplasty. He also developed a novel approach to classifying pain, problems with diagnostic spinal injections, patient safety and root cause analysis in interventional pain, and so much more.
Dr. Shah is a member of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians, Stuyvesant Alumni Association, Johns Hopkins Alumni Association, Johns Hopkins Medical and Surgical Association, Amigos de Las Americas, and Texas Medical Association.
Dr. Shah has received numerous awards and honors throughout his life, some of which include Vitals.com Patient Choice Award, Faculty Development Award, Outstanding Teacher Award, and Beckers ASC Review 25 Great Physicians in New York and 150 Pain Physicians to Know (USA).
In addition to practicing medicine, Dr. Shah is happily married to a physician and has three wonderful children. He enjoys family activities and reading.
