JENNIFER VIVAR – LEAD MEDICAL ASSISTANT, MCKINNEY, TEXAS

Our employees are all patient care champions, but some go the extra mile and we want to give them the recognition they deserve. They embody the PPOA values known as S.I.T.E. – Safety, Integrity, Teamwork, Empathy – which informs our service to patients and the community through high quality health care.

Sometimes people find the medical profession by chance; others just seem born to do it. Jennifer Vivar, lead medical assistant based in the PPOA McKinney, Texas, clinic, falls into that category.

“I love helping people. It’s a gift I have. I put others before myself,” she says. “I’m very, very kindhearted.”

You’d be hard-pressed to find a single person who would disagree with her self-assessment.

“She’s very engaged in providing exceptional patient experiences for the patients in McKinney,” says her regional supervisor, Rhonda Boysen.

Born in Dallas and raised in the small town of Little Elm, Texas, Vivar was the first among her siblings to graduate from high school. She immediately enrolled in PCI Health Training Center and earned her Certified Medical Assistant certificate in 2015. She did her externship at PPOA in its now-defunct Prosper office and was hired full-time.

After working at a few PPOA clinics she came to McKinney in 2016.  Recently promoted to lead medical assistant, she now trains new hires for the role, but the McKinney clinic is her home base.

“Jennifer is always a team player and has a strong desire to grow her career path,” says her supervisor, Rhonda Boysen. “She has the respect of her teammates and they have wonderful collaboration amongst their team.”

“The clinic is our secondary home – actually more like our primary home because we spend more time here than anywhere else,” Jennifer Vivar laughs. “We get along so well. Patients see that and it makes them more comfortable.”

The patients – she always comes back to the patients.

“As a medical assistant you really do bond with patients,” she says. “They become like family because you see them every month and they tell you about their lives. Most important, you want them to be comfortable.”

Physician Partners of America welcomes Edrick Lopez, M.D., as an interventional pain management physician in our  McKinney, Texas, office. He begins his position on Sept. 4.

Dr. Lopez is double board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

He takes a multidisciplinary approach to pain relief of neck, back and joint injections. He performs Botox for migraine headaches as well as regenerative medicine.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan followed by a dual degree in medicine and law from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine and School of Law.

“I’ve always had an interest in politics and history, which are the foundation of law,” says, Dr. Lopez, whose father was a rheumatologist in Puerto Rico. “The dual degree gave me the opportunity to learn about the system physicians practice in and about how healthcare is run.”

After working as a research assistant and law clerk in Puerto Rico, he ultimately chose a career in medicine. He completed a residency at Harvard Medical School in physical medicine and rehabilitation, followed by a fellowship at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in pain management through the Anesthesiology department.

Throughout his training, he worked in a variety of positions beyond his training duties. These included the West Roxbury Veterans Administration Hospital in Boston, South Texas Spinal Clinic in San Antonio, and Baptist Healthcare System. He comes to Physician Partners of America after three years as a pain management physician at El Paso Pain Center in Texas.

Dr. Lopez has presented and written on a variety of medical and healthcare law topics ranging from spinal cord stimulators to healthcare reform. Although he does not practice law, he feels his legal training gives him a unique perspective on his patient care. “I feel it makes me a better patient advocate,” he says.

Dr. Lopez is fluent in English and Spanish. He is married to a Dallas native and the proud father of three boys. In his spare time he enjoys playing guitar, tennis and watching Dallas Mavericks basketball.

Did you know Physician Partners of America offers complimentary transportation to and from procedures at our clinics? Our roomy, comfortable Ford Transit vans can take patients to their appointment and back home again in West Central Florida and in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

“We recognize that not everyone has family or friends available to take them to their appointments, and we firmly believe lack of transportation should never keep people from getting the care they need,” said Tracie Lawson, Physician Partners of America president and COO. “The patient courtesy shuttle program is part of our commitment to providing convenient, compassionate care to all our patients.”

Patients undergoing minimally invasive procedures are given priority for use of the shuttles, however, PPOA is also making them available on a reservation basis for patients getting MRIs, and for appointments at our pain management clinics in many of our markets. The service will be expanded in the coming months.

Patients can request a courtesy shuttle ride when making their appointment.
