Brett G. Menmuir, MD

Orthopedic Spine Surgeon

Dr. Brett Menmuir is an orthopedic spine surgeon and diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He performs minimally invasive laser spine procedures including sacroiliac joint fusions and motion preservation surgery, as well as pain management procedures.

“I take the approach of ‘less is more,’” said Dr. Menmuir. “That means doing the least possible treatment to achieve the highest function in each patient. Minimally invasive procedures use small incisions, are muscle-sparing and have a quicker recovery than open back surgery.””

A native of Johannesburg, South Africa, Dr. Menmuir earned his undergraduate degree in science from Georgetown University, and his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. This was followed by a residency in orthopedic spine surgery and a fellowship at Twin Cities Spine Center in Minneapolis, Minn.

His journey into medicine followed his natural interests. “I never wanted an office job,” he says. “I enjoy working with my hands, and I enjoy helping people.” Minimally invasive spine surgery proved to be the most gratifying path toward doing the most good.

“Rather than put a Band-Aid on someone, so to speak, a surgeon can actually fix a problem. That appealed to me,” he says.

Dr. Menmuir comes to PPOA from Laser Spine Institute, where he was a surgeon. Before that, he spent more than a decade as spine team lead at Reno Orthopedic Clinic in Nevada.

He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Society of Lateral Access Surgery and AO Spine.

In his spare time, Dr. Menmuir enjoys outdoor sports, playing the piano and world travel.
